Job Description

The Village is currently accepting applications for a Water Plant Mechanical technician. This position is involved in the repair and installation of water-treatment plant equipment, replacing and maintaining large pumps, motors and piping, and installing, trouble-shooting and maintaining large rotating equipment. 


Preferred candidate must have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with water plant repair, including mechanical process control equipment
  • Valid Florida driver's license

 Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge in the methods and techniques of maintaining and repairing water plant equipment and machinery and lubricants used in plant equipment.
  •  Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HMI and PLC equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of pipefitting and fabrication.
  • Sound knowledge of heavy equipment operation including loaders, backhoes, cranes, forklifts
  • Fundamentals of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Sound knowledge of plant shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.


  • Coordinates and conducts preventative and predictive maintenance performance tests on equipment, machinery and facilities and records results.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, updates and repairs plant equipment; repairs or rebuilds plant equipment such as pumps, valves, gear drives, chemical feed units, valve actuators blowers, motors, compressors and hand or power driven tools.
  • Maintenance of building and equipment of the water plant and well sites, including plumbing, fabrication, and piping repairs.
  • Works with sodium hypochlorite, Sodium Hydroxide, Sulfuric acid, Hydrogen peroxide and Anhydrous ammonia gas supply system when repairing chemical supply and pumping systems.
  • Responsible for the operation, implementation, and repair of the water treatment and well field electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and telemetry infrastructure.
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling maintenance, preparing records, and reporting in a timely manner through the CMMS system.
  • Performs routine mechanical maintenance activities on equipment, including lubrication, inspection, and replacement parts.
  • Adheres to safe work practices and procedures including, but not limited to lockout/tag out and confined space rules and regulations.
  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, cranes, forklifts, as necessary.


  • Required to be on "stand-by" for recall duty after regular working hours at periodic intervals as assigned.
  • Subject to respond to emergencies 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and with exposure to vibration.
  • May occasionally work in high, precarious places and occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Regularly required to use hands to fingers, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.  
  • Regularly required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
